Richard has written for stage, radio, TV and film. In 2002 he co-wrote the play Ryman and the Sheikh for Tamasha Theatre who originated the play and film East Is East. It toured to the Pleasance in Edinburgh, the Manchester Contact Theatre and the Soho Theatre, London:
He wrote a double-act with Tony Slattery and contributed to the topical BBC radio show Weekending. He co-wrote and performed in the BBC Radio 2 sketch show 'The Hot Club' with Arthur Smith, Josie Lawrence and Ronnie Golden. Richard contributed sketches to Smack The Pony on Channel 4 and to the 2023 series of the award-winning BBC Radio 4 series The Skewer. He wrote corporate films for the Moving Picture Company and Pukka Films and a feature-length screenplay about a stand-up comedian whose manager is the Devil:
